Who we are
The Southeastern Indiana Beekeepers Association is a loosely organized group of local beekeepers interested in sharing the joy of apiculture with each other and with our local communities. We are dedicated to the development of both new and experienced beekeepers who share a common desire to raise healthy honeybees, and believe that gathering regularly to exchange information and ideas benefits us all by increasing the population of healthy honeybees and knowledgeable beekeepers in the area.
Informal monthly meetings provide beekeepers a forum to discuss topics of mutual and seasonal interest, participate in hands on demonstrations, and share stories, news, resources and tools. We welcome anyone with an interest in beekeeping to attend these meetings.
Members frequently form friendships that bring them together outside the regular monthly meetings as well. We encourage the establishment of mentoring relationships to foster the skills of our new beekeepers and renew and refresh the beekeeping experience for their mentors.
Who we are not
We are not a strongly hierarchical organization. We have no officers or by-laws. We charge no dues. There are no requirements for membership but we often point to the "donation can" suggesting a "free-will donation" that goes towards resources that benefit our meetings and membership.
There is no official roster of members. Members "join" our club simply by showing up at a meeting and contributing in whatever way is appropriate for them.
We are not the final authority on beekeeping. Members share opinions and give advice, but we acknowledge that there are many different styles and techniques to choose from and we respect each other's choices to keep their bees in whatever manner makes the most sense for them.
We are not perfect beekeepers. We make mistakes. We believe in sharing our challenges and failures as well as our successes in order to help everyone grow and learn. We try to distribute accurate and timely information, and when an error occurs we attempt to correct it as soon as possible.
We welcome you to explore our website. Find out what's happening locally for beekeepers, what's going in our hives, and what's blooming in your backyard. Thank you for visiting and we hope you'll come back soon.
