DESCRIPTION:Help clean the Ohio River bank in Lawrenceburg\, Indiana! \nSeptember 16\, 2023 9am-1p \nThe Ohio River serves as a source of drinking water for over 5 million people! \nIt’s also home to ~160 species of fish! \n  \nVolunteers receive: \n\nvolunteer hours towards scholarships\, resumes\, school\, work\, scouting\, etc.\nfree t-shirt that is picked up at the time of the event\nfree water/drinks during the event\nfree food after the event at noon!\neach volunteer will ALSO get a ticket that they can enter towards a prize drawing at the end of the event for one of our gracious donations from a few of our local businesses!\n\nThe river is a source of water\, life\, travel\, and fun for many. Let’s clean it up! Gloves\, garbage bags\, buckets and more are provided. We look forward to seeing you there! \nFree parking on street and at Ivy Tech Lawrenceburg parking garage. \n50 Walnut St\nLawrenceburg\, IN 47025 \nSign up is not required but is encouraged. \nFood and prize give-a-ways held at noon! Coolers of drinks available throughout site during clean up.

SUMMARY:SIBA Monthly Meeting - Bill Spurlin
DESCRIPTION:Bill Spurlin presents... "Raising honey bees as a supplemental cash crop" \nBill will begin with a discussion of keeping costs in check by reviewing best purchasing options\, how to get free bees\, and options for woodenware.  The majority of the presentation will focus on methods of harvesting\, extracting\, and selling honey\, and other ways to earn income from the bees such as selling nucs and/or queens\, and other products of the hive – wax\, pollen and propolis. \nBio: Bill grew up on a farm in Sullivan County\, IN.  After moving to Ohio and Kentucky during his career as a machinist\, he returned to his hometown in 2002.  In returning to his roots\, Spurlin Homestead Farm was born. In addition to having a large garden\, fruit trees\, grape vines\, and blackberry vines\, meat rabbits\, chickens\, sheep\, a variety of herbs\, and bees are raised on the farm. Bill and his wife are vendors at their local Farmer’s Market\, and they serve on the board of directors for the market. Bill is an advanced Indiana Master Naturalist (IMN) and is the Program Coordinator for the Sullivan County IMN.  Bill is an avid survivalist and teaches survival skills classes.  He worked for the State of Indiana in the  Department of Corrections and the Department of Natural Resources until he retired in 2022.  Bill can be reached through his Spurlin Homestead Farm Facebook page\, or by email at bspurlin@juno.com. \nIf you've missed a previous newsletter\, find them all archived here. \nSIBA Meetings occur the 3rd Thursday of each month through the year with topics being added to the event ahead of each meeting.
