SUMMARY:SIBA Monthly Meeting - John Schellenberger
DESCRIPTION:John Schellenberger\, (President of The Beekeepers of Indiana)\, will come and discuss the new Great Plains Master Beekeepers Program. He'll also talk about The Beekeepers of Indiana\, becoming a member\, absentee voting and encourage beekeepers to subscribe to beekeeping periodicals\, books etc. John gets most excited in the spring\, building/placing nuc swarm traps to catch over wintered swarms! As cousin Kenny always reminded us\, “Remember\, it’s not how many hives you keep\, but how well you keep your hives." Think about that. Here's a little more about John. \nTBOI: \n\nLifetime member\,\nCurrently serving as TBOI President\,\nServed as Vice President-in 2019 worked with local State Senators and Representative to pass SB 529 protecting beekeeping in Indiana.\nPresenter at TBOI annual school-Catching Swarms.\n\nBeekeeper Experience: \n\nGrowing up\, helped my Dad and his first cousin keep bees and harvest honey.\nBeekeeper for over 18 years and enjoy mentoring new beekeepers.\nJourneyman University of Montana\nJourneyman Candidate Great Plains Master Beekeeper Program\nWrite a biweekly article on beekeeping-Plan Bee in our local News and Tribune newspaper\n\nPersonal: \n\nMarried to Anita for 47 years\nDaughters: Jill and Julie\, grandson; Gus\, Daniel and Vera\n\nProfession/Education: \n\nRetired from BellSouth and AT&T Mobility after 30 years as telecommunications engineer and project manager\nEducation: Post graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business.\n\nPublic Service: \n\nCurrently serving my seventh year as Floyd County Commissioner.\nServed ten years on the Floyd County Indiana\, County Council.\nVery good relationship with local State Senators and Representatives as well as Farm Bureau.\n\nIf you've missed a previous newsletter\, find them all archived here. \nSIBA Meetings occur the 3rd Thursday of each month through the year with topics being added to the event ahead of each meeting. SUMMARY:2023 Fall Conference & Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Fall Conference and Workshops will be held on October 27/28th\, 2023 at the Historic Eagle Cotton Mill in Madison\, Indiana.  Our program will begin on Friday evening. \nTo see the entire agenda\, click here. \nFood will be provided by Parkhurst Dining which is Hanover College.  For lunch we'll be serving \n\nPotato Salad\nCorn on the Cob\nBaked Beans\nColeslaw\nGrilled Burgers and Dogs\nBBQ Chicken\nHickory Smoked Pulled Pork\nCookies\nBrownies\n\nOur Keynote Speaker will be Bob Binnie.  Bob began commercial beekeeping in 1981 in Oregon & has been involved in commercial beekeeping in 10 states. \nBob is a past President of the Georgia State Beekeepers Association (2008 and 2009)\, and has served 2 terms on the Board of Directors. He is a past President of the Northeast Georgia Mountain Beekeepers Association. Bob is the past President of the Macon County Beekeepers club in NC. \nHe was voted the 2003 Georgia State Beekeeper of the Year by the Georgia State Beekeepers Association. He is often a guest speaker at many clubs in the southeast and is often asked to teach classes at Beekeeping Schools. \nRegistration is now open for both attendees and vendors.
