February 2021 Meeting Recap

By W. Cooley

The planning meeting was a great success. We were very humbled by the number of people who showed up to understand the future of SIBA and how they could help. We will be having a meeting in March! Jeff Montag will show us how to take a nuc to honey in one season! More on that later.

  • Jim Orem has stepped down as MC. We thank Jim for his support and dedication over the years!
    • New interest: Dave Broxterman and Don Burkart (and anyone else who'd like to be tapped to fill in when needed)
  • Pat Seevers would like assistance in newsletter editor responsibilities.
    • Whitney Cooley is interested with helping in this role.
    • Pam Voris also expressed interest in helping to take notes.
  • New Meeting Location Prospects:
    • We want to thank Garry Reeves for hosting our bee meetings for over 13 years.
    • Available funds: $50/mo.
      • Must be able to hold ~ 80 attendees (noted at peak times)
        • Continue at Moores Hill Senior Center ($25/mo)
        • Carriage House Farm—North Bend, OH
        • Agner Hall—Lawrenceburg, IN
          • One meeting attendee is looking into availability/price
        • Aurora Community Center
  • What do we want from our meetings?
    • Round table discussion
    • Meetings to talk about events/learnings
    • Bees on site not immediately needed as can schedule hands on days outside of meeting time blocks—possibly on weekends when someone is willing to host
    • Will continue at Moores Hill Senior Center until new meeting location identified
    • Core group advised to make decisions, lead, run meeting logistics
      • ~7 critical roles of club to be sent out by Jason with information on roles and how to express interest
      • Will formalize roles/governance structure hopefully by March meeting
    • Interested in Membership Roster?

      • Consider keeping roster with information as a resource and means of contact tracing, particularly during Covid-19
      • Track attendance of members? Of guests?
