SUMMARY:Workshop: Best Management Practices for Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:Indiana University\nIndiana Memorial Union \nThis workshop will provide an overview of the natural history and basic identification of pollinators and will focus on management practices that support or that may negatively affect pollinators and other beneficial insects. The course will detail how to provide food and shelter for pollinators and address management actions such as grazing\, mowing\, controlled burning and pesticide use. \nCourse participants will conduct a field tour to see pollinator habitat and discuss best management practices on site. \nThis course will increase the ability of land managers to: \n\nDistinguish bees from other insects\nAssess natural areas as functional pollinator habitat and identify opportunities for increasing pollinator and other beneficial insect diversity\nUnderstand best management practices that minimize land-use impacts on pollinators\nMake recommendations on management and restoration practices to conserve pollinators\n\nPresenters: \nRich Hatfield\, Senior Endangered Species Conservation Biologist\, Bumble Bee Lead\,  Xerces Society \nScott Hoffman Black\, Executive Director\, Xerces Society \nStephanie Frischie\, Agronomist / Native Plant Materials Specialist\, Xerces Society \n--- \nWant to learn about how to manage natural areas for the benefit of pollinators?  Join the Xerces Society for a full-day workshop focused on concepts to protect and enhance populations of pollinators in natural areas and other wild landscapes. \nThis workshop is part of the programming being offered during the 2018 Natural Areas Conference\, October 23-25\, 2018.  Attendees can sign up as part of their conference registration or can sign up to attend only this workshop.\n \nRegister for workshop only
