Don Burkart
Beekeeping Story:
- Started keeping bees when I retired in 2019. My first hive was populated with a swarm that I caught on May 6 th, 2019.
- I really enjoy catching swarms, and giving them to new beekeepers to get them started. A wise beekeeper (and longtime SIBA member) taught me to pay-it-forward, and I try to practice that!
- I currently have 12 hives, 6 in the Yorkville area of Dearborn County, and 6 in the Fairview area of Switzerland County.
- Began attending Southeastern Indiana Beekeepers Association meetings in October of 2018.
- Became Librarian in 2020 and am serving as a board member on the SIBA Board of Directors.
Occupation:
- Retired from Duke Energy after 41 years, where I held various positions in Construction, Engineering and Project Management.
Other:
- My wife Lisa and I enjoy travelling, but I really like being around home too.
- I enjoy fishing, hunting, golfing, cooking, vegetable gardening, wine making, wood working, and of course…beekeeping.
