Field Day at Jim Orem’s Bee Barn – Splits!

🐝 Join the Southeastern Indiana Beekeepers Association for a hands-on day in the apiary at Jim Orem’s Bee Barn! Whether you’re a seasoned beekeeper or just curious about getting started, this is a great opportunity to learn, connect, and get your hands in the hives.
📅 Date & Time
Saturday, April 18 (following the club meeting)
Start time: 9:00 AM
🔍 What to Expect
- 9:00 AM – Hive Splitting Demonstration
Learn how to split hives with experienced beekeepers Jackie Doan and Jared Spokowsky - 12:00 PM – Pitch-In Lunch
We’ll break for a casual lunch. No cost to attend—just bring a dish to share if you can! - Afternoon – Hands-On Hive Work
Head back into the apiary for practical experience. We’ll pair newer beekeepers with experienced mentors for a valuable learning experience.
🌦 Weather Plan
If conditions aren’t ideal, we’ll move the hive-splitting demo indoors. Lunch will happen rain or shine, so come prepared either way!
🧑🌾 Who Should Attend?
- SIBA members of all experience levels
- Anyone curious about beekeeping—the public is welcome!
Even though public turnout is usually light, we want anyone interested to feel welcome to join us and see what beekeeping is all about.
🐝 What to Bring
- Bee suit (if you have one)
- We’ll have a limited number of kids’ suits available
- A dish to share for lunch (optional, but appreciated)
